Therapeutic Horsemanship
Therapeutic Horsemanship is beneficial for individuals with a wide range of physical, emotional, and mental special needs and/or differing abilities.
Some of the benefits include:
-Increased brain stimulation which promotes learning, focus, and clarity
-Physical fitness and increased strength
-Improved balance and coordination
-Increased self esteem and self awareness
-Improved communication skills
The positive effects from horseback riding have been noted in, but are not limited to, the following conditions:
-Learning Disabilities
-Developmental Delays
-Depression
-Anxiety
-Autism
-ADHD
-Downs Syndrome
-Stroke Recovery
-Low self-esteem
-Chronic Pain
Similar lessons are available to seniors who have the strength and balance to mount, ride, and dismount.
These are 30-45 minute lessons, depending on the students endurance and ability level. An individual lesson program will be developed for each student with the input of the instructor, student and parents, as well as any other aid workers who the parents would like to have participate.
In order to participate students may be required to have a Physician Referral Form signed by their doctor and returned before the first lesson, or to attend an individual consultation with a designated OT.
